School Meals

As a school we try to promote a healthy eating policy and hope that parents would support this. The menu for school meals is planned on a four week cycle, and usually offers a minimum choice of three meals, including a vegetarian and a Halal choice. Menus are displayed in the hall for the children. Current menus can be viewed on the link below.

The cost for a school meal increases slightly annually, free meals are available for children of families entitled to ‘Income Support’ and ‘Job - Seekers Allowance’. Please ask the School Office for an application form.

(We would be grateful if all eligible families would register for this entitlement, even if meals are not taken as the school may receive additional funding from this.)

Food Policy

As with all schools, The Oaklands has reviewed its policies and procedures, to ensure that statutory Government policy is followed.
We have installed water coolers at different points within the school and ensured that water is available throughout the day. Children are able to purchase individual named water bottles from the office.

No crisps or sweets are allowed at break times but children from Year 3 are encouraged to bring in fruit or a healthy snack that can be eaten at this time. Free fruit is provided for all children from Nursery to Year 2. Free milk is provided for Reception & Nursery children.
